Libman Education Quick ICD-10 Training Courses

To help HIM professionals with time and budget constraints prepare for ICD-10 in time for the October 1, 2014 ICD-10 deadline, Libman Education has released affordable, online ICD-10 quick courses, written by nationally recognized ICD-10 experts.

The courses, “A Quick Course on the ICD-10-CM Classification Systems” and “A Quick Course on the Mechanics of the ICD-10-PCS Tables,” are foundational to further ICD-10 study.  The student who completes one or both of these “quick courses” will gain knowledge of the principles governing the ICD-10 system to make additional ICD-10 study more efficient and meaningful.

The ICD-10-CM course, authored by Gail I. Smith, MA, RHIA, CCS-P, explores the characteristics of ICD-10-CM and provides a background of why we use classification systems in healthcare. Course features include interactive quizzes, an easy to read format, comparisons, and examples.

The ICD-10-PCS course, authored by Lynn Kuehn, MS, RHIA, CCS-P, FAHIMA, explores the features, format and organization of ICD-10-PCS, and provides audio and visual tours of the CMS electronic files. Course features include screen shots, interactive activities, and the use of video with audio to demonstrate how to use the electronic files for ICD-10-PCS.

“Many HIM professionals know that they need ICD-10 training, but between their work schedule and personal lives, they have little time to spare,” said Susan Pepple, Vice President and COO of Libman Education. “The quick courses are meant to help resolve this dilemma. They enable students to maximize ICD-learning in minimal time; foundational material—gleaned by nationally recognized ICD-10 experts—is brought together in a succinct format for quick learning. And students can work around their busy schedules with the courses’ online, self-paced format.”

Because the ICD-10-CM/PCS courses complement one another, Libman Education is also offering them together as a complete training package for a special discounted price.

In addition, for those who take one or both courses and attend Libman Education’s Bridge to ICD-10 tour, the entire course cost is deducted from the tour price. The Bridge to ICD-10 tour is a dynamic, live training event that runs from September through November 2013, and includes two-day onsite training sessions in Massachusetts, California, and Texas.

Gail Smith and Lynn Kuehn, authors of the quick courses and the Bridge to ICD-10 instructors, are a nationally acclaimed ICD-10 training duo that have since 2010 led more than 40 training sessions, educating over 4,000 HIM professionals nationwide. They were on the development team and among the original instructors for AHIMA's ICD-10 Train-the-Trainers. Both have written books about ICD-10 and medical coding.
